Learner “Potential
to Drive” Assessment
At THERAPRISE, your life journey is our purpose.
For young or new drivers with a diagnosis such as autism, ADHD or intellectual disability. A readiness assessment that works out potential to learn to drive — and the right supports to get there.

Whats Involved
Learning to drive looks different for every young person. For those with autism, ADHD, an intellectual disability, developmental delay, anxiety or a mental health diagnosis, it helps to understand readiness and potential before committing to lessons.
A Potential to Drive assessment is not a fitness-to-drive medical. It’s a supportive look at where a young driver is now and what will help them progress. It usually includes:
-
a clinical assessment of the physical, visual and cognitive skills that driving relies on;
-
an on-road component — which can begin as passenger-based activities if the young person doesn’t yet hold a learner permit, and may progress to a short drive; and
-
a review of the everyday life skills that indicate readiness for the responsibility of driving.
We provide clear recommendations on readiness, the type and amount of instruction likely to help, and any adjustments to set the learner up to succeed. Where eligible, this can be funded through NDIS capacity-building supports.
