Medical & Disability Driving Assessments
At THERAPRISE, your life journey is our purpose.
For drivers whose medical condition, injury or disability may be affecting safe driving. A comprehensive off-road and on-road assessment against national fitness-to-drive standards, with support for reporting, licensing and funding.

Whats Involved
A medical condition, injury or acquired disability can change the way a person drives. An occupational therapy driving assessment establishes whether it’s safe to keep driving, and what — if anything — would help.
We assess against the Austroads Assessing Fitness to Drive (2022) standards used by VicRoads. The assessment can be completed in an automatic or manual vehicle. Two parts form the basis of the process:
-
an off-road clinical assessment with your occupational therapy driving assessor (OTDA); and
-
an on-road practical assessment with your OTDA and a specialist driving instructor, in a dual-control vehicle.
-
Some drivers with a physical impairment need vehicle modifications to return to driving. Where that’s the case, we guide the prescription, on-road trial and funding.
We support you through the whole pathway — reporting to your GP or specialist and to VicRoads Medical Review, any licence conditions, and applications to funders such as NDIS, TAC and WorkSafe for lessons or vehicle modifications.
Common reasons for referral include stroke and acquired brain injury, neurological and progressive conditions, cardiac events, psychiatric conditions, the effects of medication, and physical injury.
